At INLIBRIUM, Dr. Tabaac carries out each client’s full medical screening before the program begins: a physician’s review of physical and mental health, medications, and neurological history, so that anything that could affect safety is identified before the first residency. During the residencies he is one of the psychedelic medicine co-facilitators, bringing a neurologist’s eye and a calm, non-directive presence into the sessions themselves.
Dr. Tabaac’s daily work is dedicated to addressing symptoms and pathologies pertaining to the brain and mind. As a vascular neurologist, Tabaac treats stroke, seizures, headaches, dementia, movement disorders, and traumatic brain injuries. Decisions must be made efficiently, with accuracy, and care. Tabaac’s clinical and academic work extends to researching psychedelics as therapeutics, dedicated to addressing neurodegenerative diseases, incorporating medical education, and to investigating novel avenues to neurological recovery. His teaching has been recognized three times with the Arnold P. Gold Foundation Humanism and Excellence in Teaching Award.
His interest in psychedelic medicines originates from exploring where neurology and psychology meet: examining and studying how compounds can reopen the brain’s capacity to heal after injury. He hosts The Zero Hour Podcast, in conversation with Rick Doblin, Robin Carhart-Harris, Matthew Johnson, Gül Dölen, Paul Stamets, and Bessel van der Kolk, and wrote the chapter “Brain Healing with Psychedelics” for the Handbook for Human Potential (2025). His own practice includes a commitment to physical fitness and wellness, nutrition, breathwork, sound healing, and meditation; inclusive of mindfulness and Vipassana training.
What distinguishes Dr. Tabaac is his ability to hold curiosity and restraint at the same time. He does not reduce a person to a scan, diagnosis, or research finding, nor does he dismiss a possibility simply because the evidence is still developing. As INLIBRIUM’s scientific advisor, he helps clients and the team understand what matters, what remains unknown, and how that uncertainty should shape consent and decisions.
